Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior right fielder David Smith earned an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-West Region gold glove award, it was announced on Monday.
The 5-foot-8, 160-pound Rowlett, Texas, product finished the season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage from his outfield position. Smith started in 41 games and had 93 putouts and 2 assists during the 2008 season. He becomes the first Ozarks’ player to ever receive the award.
He finished tenth in the American Southwest Conference in batting (.401) and ninth in doubles (15). His 19 steals placed him third in the ASC. He is a two-time Honorable Mention All-Conference player.
