Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior right fielder David Smith was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Hitter of the Week, it was announced by ASC Media Relations Director Greg Weghorst on Monday.
Smith, a 5-foot-8, 160-pound native of Rowlett, Texas, paced Ozarks (26-6, 11-3 ASC) to a 4-0 week, including an ASC East Division sweep of Louisiana College, by going 13-for-19 from the leadoff spot. Smith scored eight runs, hit a double, drove in four runs and had a pair of 4-for-5 games. He was also 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts. Smith played error-free defense and threw out a runner at home in the Louisiana College series. He went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and stole three bases against Hendrix College on April 1.
Smith improved his average to .422, second-highest on the team, and is the team-leader in stolen bases (14). He has 46 hits, second-most on the club. He earned ASC All-East Division Honorable Mention honors last season.
Ozarks will host Mississippi College in a three-game set this weekend.
