Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior David James was named the American Southwest Conference men's cross country Runner of the Week, it was announced by ASC Media Relations Director Greg Weghorst Tuesday.

James, a native of Parthenon, Ark., ran a program-record and ASC top time of 25:57.84 at the 8K Memphis Twilight in Memphis, Tenn. on Saturday. James, who finished 63rd in a NCAA Division I and II-heavy field of 264, has the top 8K time in the conference by over 30 seconds. James broke Brandon Johnson’s school record of 26:02 that he set in 1996. James has one top-10 finish this season, which came at the UT Tyler Invitational.

James was named All-Region by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, All-Conference First Team and ASC Runner of the Week in 2009.

James, who was voted the ASC Freshman of the Year in 2008, is a graduate of Jasper High School where he was the 2008 Class A overall individual cross country champion and a four-time All-State performer.

Ozarks will travel to Memphis for the Rhodes College Invitational October 2.
