Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks cross country runner David James was named the American Southwest Conference Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year, it was announced by the ASC office this week.
The ASC Freshman of the Year award goes to the first freshman to finish at the American Southwest Conference championships. James did so at the November 1 meet, running a 27:12.4 in the 8,000-meter event. A native of Jasper, Ark., he was named Second Team All-Conference after finishing ninth at the ASC championships.
James’ best time of the season came at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Open when he ran a 27:04 in the 8K. James completed the season running in the NCAA III Southeast Regional championships November 15 where he finished 74th among 152 runners.
James was the 2008 Class A Arkansas overall individual cross country champion at Jasper High School. He was a four-time All-State performer.
