Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O baseball team (4-7, 0-6) dropped three games to Concordia-Austin (10-5, 4-2) in American Southwest Conference play over the weekend.
The Eagles were defeated 14-0, 5-0 and 5-4 to the number seven-ranked team in the country. The Eagles were unable to muster any offense in the first game of the series as Concordia-Austin’s star pitcher threw a one hitter in seven innings of work. Clint Phifer recorded the team’s only hit. Nathan Moore (1-1) received the loss. In the second game, the Eagles held a 4-1 lead going into the final inning of play before the Tornadoes scored 4 runs in the final inning to secure the win. A Chris Harell home run broke a scoreless game in the third inning and gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead. It was the second time this season Harrell has recorded 3 RBI in a game and was Harrell’s first home run of the year. Ozarks then added one more run in the fourth inning on a Bret Hays RBI single to put the Eagles up 4-0. The Tornado’s would tack on a run in the fifth inning and four runs in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. Freshman pitcher Trevor Holbert received the loss (1-2) after giving up only three hits in 6.1 innings of work. The third game of the series saw the Eagles out hit the Tornados 7-6 and still come up short in their quest to record their first ASC win of the year. Concordia-Austin scored three runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to gain a victory. Junior outfielder Todd Vandevoir led the team with two hits. Sophomore pitcher John Burgess (1-1) received the loss.
