Clarksville, Ark.-Mississippi College held a narrow 1-0 halftime advantage, but then exploded for five goals in the second half to earn a 6-0 shutout win over the Eagles in American Southwest Conference soccer play Thursday in Clinton, Mississippi.
The Choctaws (10-3-2, 5-0-2 ASC) posted a goal in the 24th minute to maintain a 1-0 lead going into the half. The Eagles (7-6-3, 2-4-2 ASC) missed an opportunity to score early in the second half allowing the Choctaws to gain momentum of the match. The Choctaws quickly scored in the 59th minute and then proceeded to score in the 65th and 68th minute. Mississippi College would score a pair of late goals against the Ozarks’ defense to put the match out of reach.
Ozarks totaled nine shots in the match, with Eloy Salgado recording four of those. Austin Benner had six saves and Jarret Sadler had one save in goal for Ozarks.
Ozarks will travel to Pineville, Louisiana, to face Louisiana College October 25.
