Clarksville, Ark.-Freshman forward Alex Cannon recorded a hat trick in her first collegiate game to lead the University of the Ozarks Lady Eagles to a 3-1 win over Central Baptist College Thursday night.

Cannon, from Chattanooga, Tenn., netted her first goal in the 4th minute on a left-footed rocket shot from 35 yards out. That goal went unassisted. Cannon took a pass from midfielder Morgan O’Neil and blasted one in from 40 yards out in the 23rd minute to help Ozarks (1-0-0) hold a 2-0 halftime lead. Central Baptist (0-2-0) did have more shots in the first half (7-5), and had a clear shot in the 30th minute before freshmen defender Brooke Tralmer knocked it away. The Lady Mustangs would score in the 48th minute to pull within 2-1. Freshman goalkeeper Mary Eoff stopped a Brittany Kemper would-be goal with fifteen minutes to play and then got another save just a minute later to put the Lady Eagles in position to win. Ozarks continued to attack and eventually Cannon connected on another shot in the 89th minute to secure the game. Kristen Callahan had the assist.

Cannon finished with six shots. Abby Kern posted two shots and Eoff stopped eight balls in her debut in goal.
