Clarksville, Ark.-Sophomore midfielder Brandon Cain lifted the Eagles to a 3-2 overtime win over Hendrix College with a game-winning goal on Wednesday night in Conway.
Cain recorded his second goal of the season in the 96th minute off a corner kick by Dylan Evans. Ozarks (2-1-0, 0-0-0) appeared to have the game wrapped up, but Hendrix (1-2-0, 0-0-0) midfielder William Brown got the game-tying goal with just 1:15 left to play in the match.
The Eagles opened the non-conference rivalry with a quick 1-0 lead thanks to Aaron Brueckner’s goal in the 5th minute. It was Brueckner’s second score of the young season.
Hendrix tied the match with a goal in the 27th minute. Darren Clark put the Eagles in front 2-1 in the 74th minute before Hendrix tied the match nearly 15 minutes later.
Ozarks out shot the Warriors 27-9. The Eagles had 15 shots on frame. Clark and Shaun Renfro each collected six shots. Cain finished with five shots, all of which were on goal. Cain had one game-wining goal during the 2006 season. Nine different players for Ozarks recorded at least one shot.
Ozarks will host Missouri Baptist University in their home-opener on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
