Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks teammates Cory Briggs and Bruce Cameron shared the American Southwest Conference East Division Preseason Player of the Year honor, it was announced Tuesday by ASC Media Relations Director Greg Weghorst.
Briggs, a junior shortstop from Greencastle, Pa., hit .467 last season to win the ASC batting title and also produced eight home runs, 19 doubles and 54 RBIs. Cameron, a senior outfielder who also pitches, batted .410 with 14 homers, 12 doubles and 49 RBIs. The Houston, Texas, product also posted an .827 slugging percentage. He went 5-1 on the mound.
Briggs was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America Second Team and Cameron earned a spot on the by the D3baseball.com All-America Second Team in 2008. Both were named to the ASC All-East Division First Team in 2008.
Ozarks was predicted to finish third in the ASC East Division, according to the conference’s preseason poll released Tuesday. The Eagles finished 32-11 last year and went to the playoffs for the second straight season. Ozarks begins the season February 3 against Hendrix College.
