Brian Sarber Voted ASC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks senior goalkeeper Brian Sarber was voted the 2008 American Southwest Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, it was announced on Tuesday by ASC Media Relations Director Greg Weghorst.

A First Team All-ASC selection a year ago, Sarber was voted the 2007 ASC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league in goals against average (0.67), saves percentage (.869) and shutouts (7). The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Allen, Texas, product earned NSCAA All-Region Second Team, ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America and D3Kicks.com All-Region First Team honors last season. He enters the season owning a conference-best 0.81 career goals against average.

In the ASC preseason poll voted on by head coaches and sports information directors, Ozarks was predicted for a third-place finish. They received three first-place votes. Ozarks won the ASC regular season championship last season with a school-best 11-2-0 conference mark. They went 17-5-0 overall.

Ozarks will begin their title defense this weekend when they host Central Baptist College on Saturday and Hendrix College on Sunday. Both matches will start at 3:00 p.m.
