Clarksville, Ark.-Freshman goalkeeper Brian Sarber was named American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Eagles (5-1-0, 2-0-0) to a pair of conference wins over the weekend.
Sarber, a 6-3, 215-pound native of Allen, Texas, made a game-changing save off a penalty kick with 4:30 remaining to lift Ozarks to a 2-1 win over LeTourneau on Saturday and complete a two-win ASC weekend. Sarber’s save was one of a career-high 9 and gave the Eagles momentum as Ozarks scored the game-winner 30 seconds later. The freshman earned his first career shutout on Friday with four saves in a 1-0 overtime win against East Texas Baptist. ????? Sarber ranks second in the league in goals against average (.64) and fourth in save percentage (.885). He owns a 4-1-0 record and has collected 23 saves in five starts. ????? The Eagles are one of five teams currently tied for first place in the ASC. ????? He is a 2005 graduate of Allen High School where he led the team to the Texas Governor’s Cup Tournament and Coppell Tournament Championships.
