Clarksville, Ark.-Junior guard Brent Johnson was named American Southwest Conference East Division men's basketball Player of the Week after leading the Eagles (7-9, 4-1) to a pair of road wins and helping Ozarks move into a first-place tie the East Division standings.
Johnson, a 6-1, 200-pound native of Ozark, averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 steals per game in wins over UT-Tyler and UT-Dallas. Johnson finished with 22 points, four steals and three assists in the Eagles’ 85-80 win at UT Tyler on Thursday, then came back with 23 points, including 8-of-10 free throws, and five steals in a 81-68 win at UT Dallas Saturday. Johnson stretched his string of games scoring 20 or more points to five while converting 55 percent of his field goals (15-of-27) over the weekend series. He hit 3-of-10 (30%) of his three-pointers over the two-game stretch. He is tenth in the ASC in scoring (15.4), fifth in steals (2.1) and in ninth three-pointers made (27). He is a graduate of Ozark High School.
