Clarksville, Ark.-Sophomore forward Blake Mitchem was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by ASC Media Relations Director Greg Weghorst.

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Fort Smith, Ark., native averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 blocks over two conference road games. Against Louisiana College Saturday, Mitchem hit a jumper just inside the 3-point line as time expired to give the Eagles a 65-63 win. He had 27 points and 14 rebounds for the game, his 13th double-double of the season. He posted 23 points and missed just three shots from the floor against nationally-ranked Mississippi College February 4. Mitchem, who takes the division’s top weekly award for the second time this season, shot 68.7 percent from the field on the week. His first ASC Player of the Week honor came in November when he opened the season with back-to-back double-doubles.

Mitchem has been a dominant force for the Eagles in his first year as a full-time starter. He leads the ASC in scoring (21.3) and rebounding (11.4). He ranks fifth among conference players in field goal percentage (57.2%) and is third in blocked shots (2.0). His 11.4 rebound average places him 10th in NCAA III.

He is a graduate of Northside High School where he was named All-Conference his senior campaign.

Ozarks will play at UT-Dallas tonight and then play another road game against UT-Tyler February 13 before finishing out the regular season with a pair of home games.
