Clarksville, Ark. --- Nate Theisen, an assistant professor of art at Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss., will have his art exhibit entitled The Figurative and the Concrete on display at the University of the Ozarks as the university's featured Artist of the Month for March.

Theisen earned his BFA in painting from the University of South Dakota and an MFA in painting from Wichita State University. He describes his paintings and sculptures as allegorical as well as a narration that relates personal experiences. The subjects in his work are not purely autobiographical, but are generalizations of internal experiences. These experiences primarily revolve around the idea of personal change: feelings of conflict, isolation, and anxiety that accompany growth; and feelings of helpless stagnation that result from inattentiveness or inactivity. There will be a reception to meet the artist from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, in the Stephens Gallery, located in the Walton Fine Arts Center on the U of O campus. The exhibit will run from March 1 to March 31. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on the exhibit, contact the Humanities and Fine Arts Division at 979-1349.
