Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O women's basketball team was picked to finish second in the American Southwest Conference's East division while the men's team was picked to finish third in a recent preseason coach's poll.
The Lady Eagles, who finished 15-9 and earned a berth in the ASC post-season tournament last season, received six second place votes. Mississippi College received all seven first place votes. Senior center Christie Shuffield was chosen as the East Division Preseason Player of the Year. Shuffield led the conference in blocked shots (44) a year ago. The Eagles, who finished 17-8 last season and also earned a spot in the ASC post-season tournament, received four second place votes and two fourth place votes. Matt O’Connor will begin his first season as head coach. Mississippi College received five first place votes to earn the conference’s top spot.
