Basketball Teams Begin Season On Friday

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks men's and women's basketball teams will begin their season on Friday, November 16 at the Hendrix Classic in Conway.

The first game will feature a "Battle of the Ozarks" as the U of O women will take on College of the Ozarks (Point Lookout, MO) at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Eagles will face Rust College at 6 p.m. The Lady Eagles ended last year with a 15-8 overall record and played in the American Southwest Conference’s post-season tournament. Post player Christie Shuffield, 6-1, and forward Mandy Thomas, 6-1, are expected to play major roles for the Lady Eagles this season. The U of O men will play their first game under new head coach Matt O’Connor. The Eagles begin play at 6 p.m. against Rust College on Friday. On Saturday, the Eagles will face Central Baptist College at 1 p.m. Brent Gibbs, a 6-5 post player, and a strong backcourt are expected to lead the Eagles this season. The Eagles also earned a berth in the ASC post-season tournament after recording a 17-8 a year ago.
