Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O baseball team concluded their season last Tuesday with a 14-4 loss to Lyon College in Batesville. The Eagles were also defeated 10-4 by Henderson State April 18.
The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 11-27 and a conference record of 6-16. "We played a lot of young guys this season and they were able to gain some experience in collegiate baseball," said head coach Jimmy Clark. "We will be extremely young next season, but we have a good core of players returning. Our freshmen who played this season will provide a strong nucleus for the next few years." The Eagles lost eleven games by 3 runs or less this season and upset the number one team in the conference. "Our guys competed and played hard throughout the season," said Clark. "I was most proud that our kids continued to compete after we were eliminated from the playoff picture. We beat the top team in the conference in our last conference series and other than Mississippi College we beat everyone on our side of the conference at least once." James Seymour led the Eagles in hitting (.420), slugging (.605) and RBI (31). Shawn Adams finished the season with a team high 21 stolen bases and 43 hits. Clint Phifer led the squad in home runs (5) and Chance Lawless had a team best 13 doubles. Seymour also led the team in strikeouts (42). Nathan Moore led the Eagles in wins with 4.
