Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the American Southwest Conference Championships October 30 in Tyler, Texas.
The teams will contend against all conference cross country members at the meet.
For the women, senior Lindsey Kellaway, juniors Samantha Sparks, Tadera Garland and Ashley Teague, and freshman Ashley Bush will participate.
“The women have a great opportunity to compete with the field at this year’s championship meet,” said head coach Brian Hull. “They have improved in their races throughout the season and I expect them to improve this race.”
Last year in difficult running conditions due to the weather, the women finished tenth at the race. Garland was Ozarks’ top finisher running a 30:39.01, good enough for forty-seventh overall in the 6K.
On the men’s side juniors David James, Tristan Cooper, Jeremy Provence and Zach Doty, along with sophomore Trent Ueunten and freshmen Matthew Friant, Calvin Jones, Calvin Scharf and Max Hilgendorf will compete.
The men’s team finished fourth overall last year. James finished sixth with a time of 28:36.44 in the 8K to earn All-Conference honors. Cooper followed with a 28:46.80 time for an eighth place finish and All-Conference honors.
“The men’s team has the opportunity to compete well this year,” said Hull. “We are returning two all conference runners from last year’s team and we have added some more depth to this year’s team. The men have improved their time throughout the season and should be competitive at conference. Both the men and the women have raced at Tyler earlier in the season and had an opportunity preview the course. I know that both teams will work hard and will represent Ozarks very well.”
The women’s championship race will start at 8:30 am and will be followed by the men at 9:30 am.
