Clarksville, Ark.-Arkansas Tech University handed the University of the Ozarks men's basketball team a 85-65 loss in a Saturday night non-conference game in Russellville.
Tech (6-1, 0-0), off to their best start since the 1992-1993 season, jumped out to an early 17-point lead only to see Ozarks (3-3, 3-1) cut the deficit to 41-32 at the half. Ozarks looked sharp in the early stages of the second half and got within 45-41 with 17:14 left in the game when Josh Joyner scored. But that would be as close as the Eagles would get as Arkansas Tech reeled off a 15-9 run over a seven-minute span to push their lead to double-digits. Tech later increased their advantage to as many as 20 points in the second half. Ozarks shot 36 percent from the field in the contest while Tech nailed 53 percent of their shots. The Eagles out rebounded their opponent 41-37. Joyner led Ozarks with 15 points and Habeeb Kareem had 14 points. Both had 6 rebounds. Brad Johnson had 4 assists and 3 steals. The Eagles will host a pair of back-to-back conference games when they face Schreiner University on December 16 and Texas Lutheran University on December 18.
