Clarksville, Ark.-No. 22 Mississippi College jumped out to a 43-25 halftime lead and then cruised to a 77-61 win over the Lady Eagles in Thursday's American Southwest Conference game.
The first ten minutes of the game went back-and-forth before Mississippi College (18-2, 13-2) slowly pulled away. Ashley Teague’s three-pointer with 9:11 left in the half got Ozarks (5-15, 3-12) to within 19-17. The Lady Choctaws, however, then poured it on, outscoring Ozarks 24-8 the remainder of the half. Mississippi College’s pressure defense forced Ozarks into 13 turnovers and allowed only five field goals in the first half. The Lady Eagles actually outscored Mississippi College in the second half, 36-34, but the halftime deficit was just too big. Lacey Phillips sank a three-pointer early in the second half, but the Choctaws had an answer to each Ozarks’ basket.
Phillips ended with 15 points and Olivia Fisher finished with 12 points.
Ozarks will host Louisiana College this Saturday at 1:00 pm. The game can be heard locally on KXIO 106.9 FM and on the web at www.kxio.nu.
