Clarksville, Ark.-The Choctaws (17-2, 15-2) escaped with a 75-72 victory over the Eagles (9-10, 7-9) and remain in control of the American Southwest Conference East Division race with Thursday night's win.
A clutch three-pointer by Mississippi’s Orlando Lewis with :30 seconds remaining in the game gave the Choctaws a 73-72 advantage and a lead they would never relinquish. Ozarks failed to convert on its next two possessions while the Choctaws would hit two free throws in the waning moments to pull out the win. Ozarks held a 39-35 advantage at intermission behind Brent Johnson’s 15 points. Johnson’s first half scoring output proved to be historic as he passed the 1,000 career point mark after converting on a layup with 12:03 remaining. He now has 1,010 career points. Johnson scored a team-best 19 points. Brad Johnson scored 18 points while collecting 5 assists and 5 steals. Habeeb Kareem added 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Ozarks will host Louisiana College on Saturday, with the men’s game beginning at 3:00 p.m. The game will be preceded b the Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.
