No. 23 Howard Payne Handles Lady Eagles

Brownwood, Texas-No. 23 Howard Payne University held the Lady Eagles to less than 30 percent shooting from the field and gave up the lead just once in a 78-50 win Monday night in American Southwest Conference action.

The Lady Eagles (3-2, 1-1 ASC) opened the game with a three-pointer to hold its only lead of the game before Howard Payne (3-1, 1-1 ASC) answered with a shot from long-range to tie it. Ozarks trailed 20-10 at the 10:06 mark of the first half, but responded with a 5-0 run to close the gap to 20-15 with 7:21 remaining. Sabrina Goddard scored all five points for Ozarks. The Lady Jackets eventually stretched their lead to 32-18 near the end of the half.

The Lady Jackets then took control of the contest, limiting Ozarks to just 14 rebounds in the second half. Howard Payne would pull down 21 defensive rebounds in the second half to keep Ozarks from second chance opportunities. Ozarks trimmed the deficit to single digits early in the second half, but Howard Payne built a 20-point advantage six minutes in to make a comeback difficult.
Goddard led Ozarks with 17 points. April Young hit four three-pointers to score 12 points. The Lady Eagles were outrebounded 55-35.

Ozarks will host McMurry University December 1 and Hardin-Simmons University December 3.
