Lady Eagles Fall To No. 16 Patriots

Clarksville, Ark.-No. 16 Texas-Tyler earned an American Southwest Conference double-header sweep over the Lady Eagles softball team Friday in Tyler, Texas.

Texas-Tyler (14-2, 2-0 ASC) recorded a five-hit shutout in a 8-0 game one win and then came back in game two and allowed just four hits in an 8-1 victory.

In game one, Texas-Tyler took a 1-0 lead in the third as Ozarks (5-9, 0-2 ASC) committed two errors in the frame. The Patriots added another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Texas-Tyler then ended the game with a four-run sixth inning.

Ozarks led off the third with a single to right field from Molly Bowman. With one out, Ali Mathis reached base with a hit up the middle. With two outs, Kelsey Stephens loaded the bases with a walk. But Patriot pitcher Katelyn Thomason forced a line out to the second baseman to end the rally.

Mathis finished 2-for-3 to lead Ozarks.

Tabitha Porter (1-4) took the loss after tossing four innings as the starter.

In game two, Texas-Tyler scored three runs in the first on two hits. The Lady Eagles got one run back when Whitley Borin doubled in Casey Mays in the top half of the second. The Patriots had another big inning in the fifth, scoring three runs to increase its advantage to 8-1.

Kelsey Mefford (3-2) threw six innings to take the loss.

The Lady Eagles will continue their series against Texas-Tyler tomorrow with a double-header starting at 1:00 p.m.
