Clarksville, Ark.-Sam Brownwood tossed five innings of no-hit ball to lead the Eagles to a split against Central Baptist College Monday afternoon in Clarksville.
Behind the pitching performance of Brownwood, Ozarks (2-3) gained a 4-0 shutout win over the Mustangs (1-1) in game one. Central Baptist then rallied for a 6-5 win in game two.
For Brownwood, it was the second straight standout performance. The right-handed freshman threw five shutout innings against Hendrix College in his first collegiate start. Central Baptist did manage to load the bases in the second, but Brownwood ended the threat by forcing a fly out. Mitchell Powers provided the offense in the third inning with a two-run double. Already leading 2-0, Ozarks added a pair of runs in the fourth when Zac Mitchell doubled to left field. Travis Conner finished off the Mustangs with two more scoreless innings. Conner struck out three.
Brownwood (1-0) fanned three to receive the win.
Powers paced Ozarks with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
The fortunes were turned in game two as the Mustangs got the winning run on a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh. The Eagles held a 4-0 lead after four innings, but Central Baptist scored five runs in the top of the fifth, three of which came on a home run. Ozarks did tie the game, 5-5, in the next frame on a Michael Prusator RBI single.
Freddy Prince started on the mound and went four and two-third innings. Prince struck out five and did not allow an earned run. Tyler Erickson (1-1) took the loss after tossing the final two and one-third innings in relief.
Powers finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Prusator drove in two runs.
