Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles had a tough day in Jackson, Mississippi, Sunday losing a pair of games in the Wilson/DeMarini Classic.
Ozarks (1-2) trailed Berry College (2-0) 6-0 before coming back to tie it, 6-6, in the bottom of the ninth. Ozarks would score twice, with runs coming from Brandon Brewer and Jake West, in the ninth to send the game into extra innings. However, Berry got a clutch hit in the top of the tenth to rally for a 7-6 win. The Eagles mounted one last comeback in the bottom of the tenth, recording two hits with one, but Berry’s closer got a strikeout and a groundout to end the game.
Berry held a 2-0 lead after three and increased it to 5-0 after four frames. With a 6-0 advantage after six, the Eagles finally got their first run in the bottom of the frame on a Mitchell Powers RBI. Ozarks would have a big eighth inning, scoring three runs on a Powers two-run single and an Ian Bryan bases loaded walk.
Powers paced Ozarks with four RBI. Chris Young went 2-for-5.
Travis Conner went three innings in his first start of the season. Bo Thomas (0-1) took the loss.
Ozarks faced Millsaps College (2-0) in the second game of the day and lost 18-8. Millsaps exploded for seven runs in the first and three runs in the second to hold a comfortable 10-0 lead. Ozarks answered with four runs in the third on two hits. Ozarks scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to trim the deficit to 13-8.
Powers went 2-for-3 with a homer.
Bobby Osburn (0-1) took the loss as the starter.
