Beginning with the Fall 2026 Semester, University of the Ozarks will equip every incoming full-time, first-year student with a new Apple MacBook Neo, ensuring they arrive on campus with the technology needed to learn, create and succeed from the first day of classes.
The initiative replaces the University’s previous program of providing new students with iPads and reflects Ozarks’ continued commitment to removing barriers to student success while enhancing the overall academic experience.
By providing every new student with the same high-quality laptop, the University is ensuring that all students—regardless of financial circumstances or academic major—have immediate access to the software, computing power and digital resources required for college-level work.
University officials said the initiative builds on Ozarks’ long-standing commitment to access, inclusion and student success by eliminating a significant upfront expense for families while creating a more equitable learning environment.
“We’ve transitioned from providing incoming students with an iPad to providing each student with a MacBook Neo to better support the full range of academic work required at the University,” said Dr. Janie Diels, vice president for academic affairs. “Today’s students need technology that can seamlessly support everything from data analysis and research to presentations, writing, collaboration and creative projects. In particular, some courses and programs rely on the full desktop version of Microsoft Excel, including advanced features that are not available or are more limited on an iPad. By providing every student with a laptop capable of handling these demands, we’re ensuring they can fully engage in their coursework from the very beginning without worrying about whether they have the right technology. It’s an investment in student learning, confidence and long-term success.”
Recently introduced by Apple, the MacBook Neo is a reliable, easy-to-use laptop designed for the demands of higher education. Featuring a 13-inch display and powered by Apple’s A18 Pro chip, the device provides the performance students need for research, coursework, multimedia projects and collaboration throughout their college careers.
The initiative also supports a more seamless classroom experience by allowing faculty to design assignments and learning activities knowing every incoming student has access to the same technology and software capabilities. Students will be better equipped to participate in collaborative projects, complete assignments efficiently and take advantage of the University’s growing array of digital learning resources both inside and outside the classroom, according to University officials.
