University of the Ozarks Theatre will open its 2012-2013 season with three performances of Yasmina Reza's comedy "God of Carnage" on Oct. 11-13.

The plays will begin at 7 each evening in the Seay Theatre, located in the Walton Fine Arts Center on the U of O campus. Tickets are $8 each and can be purchased at the box office, which opens at 6:30 each evening of the performances.

The play, which won Reza a 2009 Tony Award, will be the University Theatre’s fall 2012 entry into the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

God of Carnage centers around two sets of Brooklyn parents who meet to resolve the matter of a playground altercation between their 11-year-old boys. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.

The play is directed by U of O Professor of Theatre Bruce B. Brown. Brown is also the scenic design and technical director. Theatre assistant Aaron Bergeron is the play’s shop manager and master carpenter. The cast is comprised of Utah Robertson as Michael Novak, Annie Williams as Veronica Novak, David Pluebell as Alan Raleigh and Lauren Charters as Annette Raleigh.

The crew includes Katelyn Nichols as stage manager, Justin Hughes in lighting design, Alisha Nystrom in costume design, Catalina Ruiz-Salazar as graphic designer and properties manager, Jacqueline Jurcik as sound designer and sound board operator and Stephen Kennedy in box office sales. The electrics stage crew includes Tori Rhein, John Davis and Clayton Becker; and the wardrobe crew includes Alisha Nystrom, Katie Clark and Darrick Conroy. The front of the house crew is Alexa McCamey and Houston Hall. The assistant state manager and understudy is Kincaid McMinn.

The New York Times said God of Carnage is a "streamlined anatomy of the human animal … delivers the cathartic release of watching other people’s marriage go boom. A study in the tension between civilized surface and savage instinct, this play is itself a satisfyingly primitive entertainment."
