CLARKSVILLE, Ark. ---Almost $10 million in campus construction and improvements are planned for this summer at University of the Ozarks.
The major project of the summer is the beginning of construction of Walker Hall, a new $7 million state-of-the-art education and communications building made possible by a gift from the Willard and Pat Walker Foundation of Springdale. Construction on Walker Hall, which will be located on the site of the former Hurie Hall, will begin in July, and the 34,000 square-foot structure should be completed by December 2002. The second major initiative is a $2.3 million renovation of MacLean Hall. The refurbishment will include new heating and cooling systems, renovation and addition of bathrooms, new fire safety systems, new doors and other interior improvements, and new furnishings throughout the hall. MacLean is the last of the three major residence halls to undergo a major renovation since 1999. Both Smith and King halls underwent major improvements the past two summers. Access to Munger Chapel will be easier after a new elevator and ADA entrance are added on the north side of the building this summer. Improvements will also be made to the chapel’s drainage system. The on-campus parking situation will be improved with the addition of a well-lighted 110-vehicle parking lot on the southwest corner of campus. The Smith-King parking lot project will also include an improved entrance road to the university from Johnson Street.
