The Department of Education announced a further delay to release batches of FAFSA information (ISIRs) to schools until the first half of March.

Student-directed one acts scheduled for Dec 8-10

Clarksville, Ark. --- The University of the Ozarks Theatre will wrap up its fall schedule with three evenings of student-directed one act performances on Dec. 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m., in the Seay Theatre, located in the Walton Fine Arts Center.

The four student-directed one acts are the culminating experience of the Advanced Directing class under the direction of Theatre Professor Pat Farmer. The student directors selected the play, cast the actors and guided production through three weeks of rehearsals. Tickets are $8 for the general public and $6 for senior citizens. There are only 100 seats available for each evening’s event and the box office opens at 6:45 p.m. For more information on tickets, call 979-1349.

Kalea Bennett, a junior theatre major from Aransas Pass, Texas, will direct the play Impromptu by Tad Mosel. The play centers around four actors who have been told to meet in a darkened theatre. Without an assigned role, what choice do they have but to play themselves? The cast includes Kelsi Ward, Trey Scott, David Pluebell and Whitney Lewis.

Martin Morales, a sophomore theatre major from Fort Worth, Texas, will direct the play Thymus Vulgaris by Lanford Wilson. The play takes place in a trailer park in the California desert where a mother and daughter learn that it’s OK to take a break every now and then as they recount the hardships of their lives. The cast includes Alisha Nystrom, Cierra Whitefield and Trey Butler.

Rebecca Arnold, a senior radio/television/video communications and threatre major from LaCygne, Kan., will direct the play English Made Simple by David Ives. The premise of the play is that the first three minutes of conversation can determine the relationship of two people for the rest of their lives. Will Jack and Jill be able to cut through the safety of small talk and find a deeper connection? The cast includes Cameron Tersterman, Jessica Scott and Alex Chandler.

Jacqueline Jurcik, a junior accounting major from Dover, Ark., will direct the play The People in the Glass Paperweight by Gene McKinney. The play focuses on an optimistic and spirited firefighter who goes to an elderly couple’s home to extinguish a reported fire. He soon learns the unsettling truth about the sweet couple. The cast includes Amber Beavers, Andrew Heim and Clayton Becker.

The crew for the one act plays includes Professor Bruce B. Brown as technical director; Tori Rhein as graphic designer and sound board operator; Justin Hughes as lighting designer; Lindsey Humphries as stage manager; Brigitte Bridoux as light board operator; Arnold as house manager; Elissa Malcom as usher; Catalina Ruiz-Salazar as box office manager; Morales as electrics crew; and Jurcik and Bennett as stage crew.
