University of the Ozarks Assistant Professor of Art Dawn Holder will present her exhibit, "Several Collections of Commemorative Plates," at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum from April 2 through July 19, 2015.
There will be an opening reception for the exhibit from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, in the museum, located at 1601 Rogers Avenue. The reception is free for members of the Regional Art Museum and $5 for non-members.

Holder, a sculptor and installation artist who works in porcelain and various other media, won the opportunity for the solo exhibit by winning the 66th annual River Valley Invitational at the museum in June.
Her installations in "Several Collections of Commemorative Plates" utilize light switch plates and outlet covers, the portals where electricity enters the domestic space.
"The repeated forms mass together in grid-like configurations, nodding both to the electrical grid and to the ease with which we employ this utility," Holder said. "In these various iterations, the switch plates are covered and enveloped by blooming porcelain flowers, abundant natural forms that overtake and block access to electrical consumption."
Holder said, "I am specifically interested in using sculpture and installation to reflect and react to the ways local populations alter, cultivate and mythologize the landscape around them."
Holder has taught ceramics, sculpture and art history at U of O since 2011. She received an MFA in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design and her bachelor’s degree in ceramics from the University of Georgia.
The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays. There is no cost for admission to view the exhibit.
