University of the Ozarks' Tennis Coach Shaun Wiseman has been hired as an admission counselor by the University, school officials announced Thursday.

Wiseman, who has coached the men’s and women’s tennis team since 2008, will continue his coaching duties at the college. As an admission counselor, his primary recruiting area will be Texas.
"Shaun is the perfect fit for the admission program," said Brian Hull, director of admission. "He has proved over the past four or five years in the athletic program that he can successfully recruit students to Ozarks. He has a great rapport with students and he has the knowledge and understanding of what it takes for students to be successful here."
Wiseman earned his bachelor’s degree in vocal music as well as a master’s degree in college student personnel from Arkansas Tech University. He is working on a Ph.D. in athletic administration from Northcentral University. At Ozarks he also serves as the NCAA compliance officer for the athletic program.
Being able to interact with students is something Wiseman said he enjoys about the recruiting process.
"I love being able to interact with students in general," he said. "From an admissions perspective, it is amazing to have a part in helping prospective students make such a huge life decision."
Wiseman said he is looking forward to visiting with prospective students and their parents about Ozarks’ small class sizes, low student-to-teacher ratio and beautiful campus, as well as some other not-so-tangible features.
"At Ozarks it is that peaceful feeling you get while on campus and the comfortable sense of belonging that can’t necessarily be put into words," he said. "Those things carry a huge weight with why students decide to come here."
Wiseman, who led the men’s tennis programs to one of its most successful seasons in program history last year, said his recruiting philosophy centers around the theme of family.
"As the tennis coach, I make it known to anyone that will listen that our team is a family," he said. "It is the same as an admissions counselor. There are fewer than 700 students on campus and I try to take the time to get to know all of them. My goal is for them to know that I am there for each and every one of them, as are the rest of us over here in admissions. Our mission is our students’ success and we are there to help in whatever way we can."
Wiseman is an avid tennis player who still competes in regional tournaments. He and his wife, Alicia, have a dog, Bella.
