The Johnson County Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation, recently presented a $1,500 grant to the University of the Ozarks Women (UOW) Christmas Angels Project.
The UOW Christmas Angels Project, in coordination with the Department of Human Services (DHS), has been in existence for 18 years and is one of the biggest volunteer efforts of the year by the organization. The project provides gifts of toys and clothing for children newborn to age 18 in Johnson County from families with financial need. Parents and guardians of these children apply for the program through the local DHS.
Last year the project provided gifts to 904 children from 360 families in Johnson County.
"We are so appreciative of the Johnson County Community Foundation for its most recent gift to the Christmas Angels Project," said Heather Dickerson, UOW chair of the annual event. "We’ve seen a greater need for this type of service in recent years, and it’s a real pleasure to live in a community that comes together to support those in need, especially the children."
