Clarksville, Ark. -- The University of Kansas Chamber Choir will be performing a concert at 7:30 p.m., March 28 in the Raymond Munger Memorial Chapel. The event is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
Consisting of both sacred and secular works, the concert program will feature historical and contemporary choral music, including compositions by Wolfgang Mozart, Aaron Copland, and Eric Whitacre.
The performance will also feature two Arkansas natives. The choir will perform "Through the Dark" composed by Andrea Ramsey, a graduate of Jonesboro High School and Arkansas Tech University, and choral director at Washington Junior High School in Bentonville. Additionally, graduate student Ryan Fox will conduct a portion of the concert. Fox is a graduate of Greenwood High School and the University of Central Arkansas and is the former choral director at Clarksville High School.
Under the direction of Dr. John Paul Johnson, Professor of Music, the University of Kansas Chamber Choir is one of 12 choral ensembles in the Department of Music and Dance and is comprised of KU’s most advanced choral musicians. The chamber choir has received numerous accolades and honors and performed at conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, the Midwest Kodaly Music Educators Association, and the Kansas Music Educators Association. Past collaborations include a residency by composer Morten Lauridsen, commissions of new choral works, performances of J. S. Bach’s
