Clarksville, Ark.-For the second time this year, the University of the Ozarks athletic department is being featured on the NCAA Division III Special Olympics web site for its participation in a Special Olympics event.

Emily Black’s story, which featured U of O student-athletes and members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) assisting at the Special Olympics Unified Softball Tournament in Clarksville, is one of three articles in the Special Olympics Spotlight Poll.

The NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll is a story-telling initiative located on ncaa.org/D3SpecialOlympics and features three stories per month – each highlighting a Division III institution and Special Olympics joint activity or event. Stories from Ozarks, Gustavus Adolphus College and Bridgewater College will compete for a $500 prize during the month of November through a fan voting contest. The story with the highest number of votes (ending November 25) is the winner. The winning institution receives $500 towards its next Special Olympics event. Other perks for winning include being recognized in the Division III Monthly Newsletter and on the Division III Special Olympics website.

In July, Black’s story featuring SAAC working at the Special Olympics Arkansas State Track and Field event won the July NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll. The athletic department received $500 and will apply it at a Special Olympics Basketball Tournament hosted by U of O in the spring.

Black, the director of social media for the sports information office, is a junior marketing major from Clarksville.
