Clarksville, Ark. --- The University of the Ozarks' Phi Beta Lambda organization has been featured on the "Fire Corps" Web site for its recent community service project to aid Johnson County RFD #1 in fire prevention and safety.

The initiative also won Ozarks’ PBL organization first place in the community service project category of the 2005 Arkansas PBL State Leadership Conference, held April 19th in Little Rock. U of O students volunteered almost 100 hours to help fill “goody bags” for Fire Prevention Week, work with the department’s smoke installation program, and assist with “Kidsfest,” the county’s fire and life safety fair held in October. In addition, the PBL members helped the department in their evaluation methods by performing critical data entry and data analysis tasks. According to the “Fire Corps” Web site: “PBL members’ dedication has helped them give back to the community, and by providing critical manpower for Johnson County RFD #1’s fire safety initiative, they have allowed the whole department to better serve the citizens of Johnson County.” The “Fire Corps” program supports and supplements fire departments through the use of citizen advocates for non-operational activities.
