Clarksville, Ark. --- University of the Ozarks will present the Latin American ethnic and folk-inspired music of the duo Calle Sur at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, in the Walton Fine Arts Center.

The event is part of the university’s 2005-2006 Walton Arts & Ideas Series. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased on the day of the performance or by calling the university at 479-979-1346. Calle Sur is made up Panamanian Edgar East and Colombian Karin Stein. The duo’s lively “Latin Collage” concerts include a large variety of rhythms of Latin America and the Caribbean and are sprinkled with riveting musicianship, a warm stage presence, anecdotes and humor. East and Stein play a large variety of traditional instruments, ranging from the Columbian “gaita” and Bolivian “charango” to the Peruvian “cajon” and the Cuban “tres.” They blend their voices into a wide range of textures, capturing both the exuberance and the tenderness of the musical styles they perform. “Hearing Calle Sur gives you that gorgeous feeling that something just left you breathless and tingling - but you can’t say exactly why, and seeing Calle Sur is living proof that the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" can’t be summarized,” one music critic wrote. “During their “Latin Collage” concert, these two artists present a diverse selection of Latin American acoustic music, both vocal and instrumental, ranging from traditional to contemporary to classical, played on a large variety of instruments. In the span of only a few hours, you will journey to unfamiliar worlds, bounce to a new and infectious beat, and soar on the wings of an incredible new sound - all without ever leaving your seat.” Calle Sur, which is Spanish for “South Street,” has traveled nation-wide and internationally, has been featured on a variety of TV and radio shows, and recently composed the film score for the CNN documentary “Soldiers of Peace.”
