CLARKSVILLE, Ark. --- University of the Ozarks officials on Monday announced a spring enrollment of 601 students.

The current student body represents a 9 percent increase over the spring 2000 semester enrollment of 553 and a 24 percent increase over the spring 1999 enrollment of 486 at the private, liberal arts university. "The enrollment figures at Ozarks continue to be impressive," said President Dr. Rick Niece. "The great thing about this spring’s enrollment of 601 is that it represents a 90 percent retention rate from fall semester to this spring. Our recently renovated residence halls and newly constructed apartment-style residence halls are a major reason for our improved retention rates. I also believe that our freshman Mentors Program, implemented last year, has had a significantly positive impact on the success of our students." ??? Dr. Niece also pointed out that applications to Ozarks for the fall 2001 semester are up by 19 percent from last year at this time.
