U of O Receives Grant for Student Support Services

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. ---University of the Ozarks has received $1.2 million in federal funding for a five-year project period to continue its Student Support Services program.

This year’s award provides U of O with $216,173 to assist students with an array of services including tutoring, special services for students with disabilities, development instruction, computer lab assistance and career services. ??? The federal government seeks to provide students with a program to help them overcome economic, social, academic and cultural barriers in higher education. Ozarks’ mission through Student Support Services is to advance and defend the idea of equal educational opportunity in higher education. ??? The proposal submitted by Ozarks received the highest honors with a composite score of 100 out of a possible 100, ranking in the top 10 percent in the nation. As a result of this top billing, Ozarks was granted an additional year. ?? ?Program Director Sherry Davis said this is the first five-year grant of its kind in the history of the university. ?? ?"The entire SSS staff is thrilled with the opportunity to serve Ozarks’ students," Davis said. "The faculty, administration, and staff at Ozarks provide a wonderful climate of learning for all students; this makes our job of supplementary assistance so enjoyable. The proposal’s high scores were a direct result of the teamwork among all units at Ozarks. It’s a great place to work." ??? Ozarks President Dr. Rick Niece received congratulatory letters from Arkansas’ two U.S. Senators, Blanche Lincoln and Tim Hutchinson.
