Clarksville, Ark. — The Rev. Cathy Ulrich has been named as the Spring 2008 recipient of The James R. Struthers Pastoral Study Leave Fellowship.
Rev. Ulrich is co-pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, in Fort Smith, Ark., along with her husband Tom Ulrich. She also serves the Presbyterian Church as the moderator of the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly.
Rev. Ulrich says her commitment to service has its roots in her childhood, where a strong Christian community and her church (First Presbyterian, Duncan, Oklahoma) instilled in her an understanding of grace, forgiveness, commitment, and stewardship which continues to this day. She has worked with Christians in base communities in Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico on building and hunger projects for those counted among “the least of these” in the community. She recently took part in a study tour of the Presbyterian United Nations office in New York where Ground Zero and the work of the UN were the central focus.
Rev. Ulrich will be on campus from Monday, March 31 through Friday, April 4. She will present the lesson during campus chapel service on Tuesday, April 1.
Under the Struthers program, a different pastor visits Ozarks for four or five days each semester, giving the pastor the time for personal study and the opportunity to interact with students, faculty and staff through classroom lectures, seminars and presentations, as well as less formal situations such as study groups, meals and fellowship. Rev. Ulrich is the sixth pastor to participate in the program since its inception in the fall of 2005.
