Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks men's and women's tennis teams opened the 2009 season in the Hendrix College Invitational February 14 in Conway.
In men’s action, John Brown narrowly defeated the Eagles 5-4. Brandon Carlson (4-6, 6-4, 10-4), Mike Laws (6-3, 6-1) and Mike Slider (6-2, 6-3) all posted wins in singles action. Slider and Huy Do teamed up for a 8-6 doubles win. Against Hendrix, the Eagles fell victim to the host school 8-1. Aaron Alderman won his singles match 8-2.
On the women’s side, John Brown took a 6-3 win Saturday. #1 singles player Lea Rana defeated her opponent 6-3, 7-6. #2 player Briar Vona handed her opponent a 6-4, 6-3 setback. In doubles play Rana and Lauren Jardieu posted a 8-4 victory. Against Hendrix, the Warriors took a 6-3 victory. Jardieu beat her opponent 6-2, 6-0 and Brittany Hein also posted a singles win 6-3, 6-1. Vona and Hein picked up a 8-3 win to give Ozarks a doubles win.
Ozarks will host UA-Fort Smith February 24 and Austin College February 27.
