Clarksville, Ark.-Julissa Garrett's scoop shot with 10 seconds left gave Schreiner University a 51-49 upset victory over the Lady Eagles in American Southwest Conference action Tuesday night.

Garrett’s shot also gave the Lady Mountaineers (1-5, 1-4 ASC) their first win of the season. The Lady Eagles (6-3, 2-3 ASC) struggled all night as they hit just 24 percent of their shots from the field. Ozarks hit only six field goals in the second half and a dismal five field goals in the first half. Nonetheless, Ozarks was in the game and even appeared to go up, 50-49, on Ashley Barry’s free throw with 38 seconds remaining. However, a lane violation kept the score tied. The Lady Mountaineers were then able to melt the clock and Garrett did the rest for the game-winner. Ozarks did have the final possession, but Sabrina Goddard’s jumper missed, sending Schreiner into a wild victory celebration.

The Lady Eagles had just three field goals through the first ten minutes of the game. Ozarks finally took a 20-19 lead at the 2:33 mark following a pair of Chelsea Glasscock free throws. Despite only five field goals, Ozarks held a 22-20 advantage at the half. Schreiner didn’t do much better, hitting only 7-of-22 (31%) from the floor in the first half. Ozarks’ shooting woes in the second half continued to hamper their ability to take control of the game. Yet, the Lady Eagles were within striking distance the rest of the way. Ozarks had to climb out of a 49-41 deficit with 6:01 left. Barry led the charge by completing a three-point play and eventually tying the game 49-49 with 2:32 left on a free throw.

Free throws kept Ozarks in the game as the Lady Eagles hit 23-of-29 on the night.

Barry sparked the Lady Eagles off the bench with 12 points. Goddard had 11 points and April Young added 10 points.

Ozarks will host Texas Lutheran University Friday night.
