Clarksville, Ark. --- Jack Rossmaier, a philosophy major from Clarksville, has been named the 2010 Hurie Award recipient, which goes to the most outstanding graduating senior at University of the Ozarks.
The award is named for Dr. Wiley Lin Hurie, who served as president of the university from 1923 to 1949. The Hurie Award is the highest honor a U of O student can receive and is voted on by members of the faculty. The award is given to a graduating senior who has been “an exemplary scholar, a campus leader, and a person of outstanding character.”

Rossmaier, son of U of O Assistant Professor of Accounting and Business Joel Rossmaier, won prizes the past three years in the university’s Project Poet, including the first-place prize in 2010. He was also named outstanding student in philosophy the past three years.
Rossmaier, a 2006 graduate of Russellville High School, spent the 2008 fall semester studying at Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and wrote his senior thesis on legal positivism. He will graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors and has been chosen by faculty and students as the senior speaker at the university’s May 15 graduation.
Rossmaier has been accepted into the University of Michigan Law School and awarded its Dean’s Scholarship. He plans to pursue a career in either public interest or academia.
