Clarksville, Ark. ---The English group Red Priest will bring its unique and creative style of Baroque music to the University of the Ozarks at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11, as part of the Walton Arts & Ideas Series.
Named after the flame-haired priest, Antonio Vivaldi, this extraordinary English ensemble has redefined the art of Baroque music performance, combining extensive research with swashbuckling style, creative re-composition, tremendous emotion and exciting staging. International critics have described their style as "electrifying," "daring," "supercharged," "brilliant," and "utterly inspired." Formed in 1997, Red Priest gives more than 50 concerts a year throughout Europe and the United States. The Washington Post wrote: "For people who appreciate classical music but have a little secret --- it bores them --- the answer is Red Priest. The four flamboyantly dressed British musicians mug, throw funny lines at us and make us laugh. But something important is going on, and it happens fast? the process is effortless, a barrel of fun and almost invisibly subtle? immaculately forged and cunningly phrased? legitimately Baroque and thoroughly musical.
