On Oct. 22, 157 students, faculty, and staff filled the Black Box Theatre for the season finale of Project Poet and watched as David Pluebell, a senior theatre major from Plano, Texas, was crowned the season eight winner and Poet Laureate of the Spadra Valley.

Tasked with writing three poems - one about love, one about nature, and one about God - the final five contestants tackled some of the most pressing questions of human existence for their final poems. In the end, it was Pluebell who impressed the judges and the audience with his work, and he walked away with the title and $1,000 in prize money.

Utah Robertson took second prize and $500, Emily Gorham took third and $250, Jennifer Scott won fourth prize and went home with $150, while Cole Clementson rounded out the top five and took home $100 in prize money.
