CLARKSVILLE, ARK. (April 7, 2006) -- Interested in photography? Local professional photographer Ted Granger will present lessons he’s learned as a full-time photographer Monday, April 17 at 6 p.m., in Baldor Auditorium on the University of the Ozarks campus. Ozarks art professor Tammy Harrington said Granger’s presentation can help people who are unable to take a photography class. "If you have good equipment and good composition (in photos), you can make a career of (photography)," Harrington said. A self-taught photographer, Granger, 54, of Knoxville has been shooting photos for years, but only went full-time last year, shortly after adopting digital cameras for all his work. "35mm cameras are starting to be dinosaurs," Granger said. "I can’t imagine (film) will be the wave of the future." He said digital cameras now rival the quality available through traditional 35mm cameras, and pointed out that several camera manufacturers have cut back on or even eliminated their film cameras Granger, who operated a Clarksville janitorial service company before going full-time as a photographer, shoots sports and nature photos and portraits, which he often sells directly to the customer. He works mainly out of his home, printing and laying out photos using three different computers and six printers. He notes that the expense of printing photos at home has actually raised the cost of photography. The event is sponsored by Ozarks’ student photography club.
