Ozarks to hold Commencement May 12

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. ---University of the Ozarks will hold its 167th Commencement ceremonies at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12, on the campus mall.

Approximately 90 graduates are expected to participate in the ceremony, including 11 graduates who completed their degree requirements in December. ??? The Commencement speaker will be Dr. Caroline Whitson, U of O’s outgoing provost and vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Whitson has been at Ozarks since 1979 and has held numerous positions, including director of public information, professor of English and communications, chair of the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts, and vice president for institutional advancement. She has been provost at the university since 1998 and vice president for academic affairs since 1995. She earned her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Whitson is leaving U of O in June to become the new president of Columbia College in Columbia, S.C. ?? Commencement will be preceded by Baccalaureate services, which begin at 9 a.m. in Munger Memorial Chapel on the Ozarks campus. A luncheon for graduates and their families will follow Commencement.
