Clarksville, Ark. --- Seven students in the university's Ozarks Mathematical Society (OMS) will attend the MAKO Undergraduate Math Research Conference at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri on November 12.

The annual conference gives undergraduate students and faculty from Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma an opportunity to present their original research or expositions of interesting but not widely known results. Topics that will be covered include "Curves of Constant Width," "The Monte Carlo Method," "The Strictly Increasing Function," and "Rusty Compass Constructions." Student presenters compete for cash prizes and will have the opportunity to have their work published in the online proceedings of the conference.

Funding for the conference is provided by an NSF grant through the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conferences Program.

According to Stephen Adams, OMS President, the conference is a valuable opportunity for Ozarks mathematics student to learn about the research being done by other undergraduate students in the field.  He said the conference registration fees for the OMS members are paid for through funds provided by the Ozarks Student Government Association.

The Ozarks Mathematical Society aims to build interest in mathematics, physics, and computer science by exposing students to different and interesting topics within these subjects. For more information about OMS, contact Dr. Matt Myers at mmyers@ozarks.edu.
