Clarksville, Ark. --- Four University of the Ozarks students recently participated in the Arkansas Student Leadership Forum on Faith and Values held this fall in Little Rock. Fiorella Bove, Matt Yetter, Jessica Musselmann and Jason Small were selected by Ozarks' faculty to participate in this second annual event.
The forum provides an opportunity for college student leaders to interact with men and women in positions of leadership in business, government, and the community. The purpose of the forum is to bring together students from diverse backgrounds from universities and colleges across the state to discuss the role of faith and basic values in leadership and service led by God. ??? "The Arkansas Student Leadership Conference provided a tremendous opportunity to spend time with a variety of individuals who have dedicated themselves to the teachings of Jesus Christ," said Small. "It was very encouraging to see individuals who have not allowed their pursuits of wealth and success to usurp their personal convictions to the Christian faith." ??? During the three-day event, students were divided into work teams and performed community service work at LTCare; STEP and Little Rock Compassion Center, a local homeless shelter. Students delivered meals to the elderly and homebound, helped paint houses, and helped clean and organize the Compassion Center. ??? "The most profound part of the conference for me was the morning my group visited the Little Rock Compassion Center," said Musselman. "As I listened to the founder of the shelter speaking of his daily trials of feeding, clothing, sheltering, and witnessing to the homeless, I realized being a leader is not about popularity, money, and power. The ultimate leaders are those who serve others." ?? ?"I realized the main purpose of the conference was to learn how to be a servant leader and it helped form my point of view on my life and what I should be doing," Bove said. "It was a great experience. I learned that being a good leader starts with being a good servant." ??? The forum is hosted by Governor Mike Huckabee and is modeled after the National Student Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., which is traditionally hosted by a few members of Congress and the vice president. There are about 30-35 other states that host similar forums.
