"Self-Portrait," by Chloe Chrimes, earned honorable mention at the CenturyLink art exhibition.

All of the students - Josue Ayala, Chloe Chrimes, Dylan Eakin, Brittany Green, Madi Hutson, Abby Kern, and Tyler Rideout - had their works accepted into the show, and their works are currently on display at the River Valley Arts Center.

Three of the students - Chrimes, Eakin, and Hutson - earned Honorable Mention awards.

  • Chrimes’ piece is a digital photograph titled "Self-Portrait."
  • Eakin’s piece is a ceramic sculpture titled "Dignity."
  • Hutson’s piece is an oil painting titled "Mama."

"I encourage the art students at Ozarks to enter competitions as a way to build the résumé," said Associate Professor of Art Tammy Harrington. "It is also a way for them to see the work that students from other schools are creating for comparison.  The River Valley competition is a great opportunity because of its location and the chance to win awards.  It is a great honor that three of our students were awarded Honorable Mention.  The pieces not only show skill and technique, but I also feel that you can really see the students’ passion for art-making in their works.  Their works are not just ‘pretty pictures,’ but are investigations and realizations of the world around them."

"Mama," an oil painting by Madi Hutson, is one of the student works which received honorable mention at the CenturyLink exhibition.

Sponsored by CenturyLink, the competition is only one of a few in the state that focus on university students. This year’s show marks the 25th anniversary of the competition.

The exhibition will be up February 1-28, 2012 and is free and open to the public.
