Clarksville, Ark. --- This fall, students at U of O will have an amazing and inexpensive opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Ozarks.

Ozarks Outdoors is offering three separate post-orientation trips especially for students late in August, as well as a special three-day event for students and the general public over the Labor Day weekend.

Three different events will take place the weekend of August 26-28. These three events are for Ozarks students only, priority given to first-time freshmen.

  • Backpacking the Buffalo – This backpacking trip will be a three-day beginners level backpacking exploration of the Buffalo River Trail. Participants will receive an introduction to basic backpacking skills, a limited distance hike along the Buffalo River, and two nights and days getting to know others in their university class.
  • Rock Climbing on Sam’s Throne – The rock climbing trip at Sam’s Throne will be a three-day intro to bouldering, rock climbing, and rappelling around Sam’s Throne, in the nearby Ouachita Mountains. In addition to being coached on bouldering and climbing technique, participants will learn how to spot and belay climbers as well as to self-rappel.
  • Paddling the Lower Buffalo River – Students will enjoy a 3-day float down the lower Buffalo River. The experience includes being coached on paddling technique and outdoor skills.

Over the labor day weekend, Ozarks students and anybody else interested can take part in the Do It All Blitz!, a three-day course that combines outdoor living skills clinics, both inside the air-conditioned classroom and out in the wild, as well as an intro to dutch-oven cooking.
